North Creek Arts District
Mission: The North Creek Arts District fosters creativity and celebrates the community's arts and cultural resources. By advancing local arts and culture, we enrich the lives of residents and visitors and strengthen the economic vitality of the Town of Johnsburg.
Vision: To be a vibrant arts and cultural destination where creativity flourishes, community connects, and culture contributes economic and social vitality.
Working Group: A cross-sector working group of artists, business owners, arts and cultural organization leaders, and town officials has been convened to guide strategic planning for the district.
Members: Shannon Andersen, Miriam Deutch, Kate Hartley, Robin Jay, Julie Milner, Candice Murray, Kim Smith, Gregory Tomb, Mike Wilson, Jennifer Zimmerman
Fiscal Sponsor: This year, Tannery Pond Center will serve as the fiscal sponsor for the NCAD, allowing for the district to apply for grants and pay for it’s expenses.
Resolution: At the June3, 2026 Town of Johnsburg Town Meeting, it passed a resolution, “that the Town Board of the TOJ expresses its support for the continued development of the North Creek Arts District: TOJ as a community-led initiative that advances the cultural, economic, and civic vitality of the Town.” Here’s the complete resolution.
Town of Johnsburg Comprehensive Plan:
Strategy 8.4: "Promote the establishment of a North Creek Arts District that enhances community anchors like the Tannery Pond Community Center, and local galleries, artists, artisans, and Main Street businesses."
Supporting strategies: Strategy 12.4 calls for encouraging businesses that add cultural, recreational, and entertainment amenities to hamlet centers. Goal 4 explicitly names arts, culture, and tourism as economic drivers. The arts district directly implements both goals simultaneously and aligns with the Comp Plan's Smart Growth framework for North Creek as the Town's primary hamlet center.
Art & Cultural Assets of the Town of Johnsburg: The names in bold have joined the arts district. We have invited the others to participate in the August 8 Arts Fest. ADK Glassblowing, Judy Brown/Garnet Studios, Cari Clement, Delczeg’s Discoveries, Divine Acres Art Barn, Foothills Vintage, Frances Gaffney, Gem Radio Theater, Jo Glazebrook, Maria Glode, Karen Hanley, Kate Hartley, H'ART Studio and Gallery, Hudson River Trading, Erika Leigh Photography, Siobhan Levere (Mountain River Life Photography), Jan Palmer, Johnsburg Historical Society, Kirche – Art, Antiques, Vintage & Uniques, Mountain Pottery, North Creek Depot Museum, North Creek Mosaic Project, Northern Ink Tattoo, Our Town Theater Group, Eva Kusmirek Stamper, Allen Stamper, Tannery Pond Center & Widlund Gallery, Sally Webb, Peter Winter
District Geography: The district runs down Main Street from the Tannery Pond Community Center to Riverfront Park. The goal is to include artists from all 6 Hamlets of the Town of Johnsburg.
