It’s been well documented that E.R.I.E. was dreamt up in a hospital bed. The cliff notes version is that songwriter and multi-instrumentalist TJ Foster had unexpected heart surgery at the young age of 30, spent the next year writing a record (2020’s Don’t Wanna Live, Don’t Wanna Die), and then recruited a band on the precipice of a global pandemic. Truly great timing.

But the Upstate New York indie-punk quartet has certainly made the most of their time since, signing to Mint 400 Records, collecting a number of local music awards nominations, and amassing a catalog one EP and three LPs deep including their latest, 2025’s The Highs, The Lows, And Everything in Between. Full of soaring melodies, pounding rhythms and insightful lyrics, it’s a record that highlights E.R.I.E.’s knack for writing pop-rock anthems with something to say.

Produced by Alec Lewis (who eventually joined the band mid-recording), engineered/mixed by Mike Dwyer (Jade Bird, The Lumineers), and featuring delightful collaborations with Sydney Worthley, Erin Harkes, and LiketheAstronaut, The Highs, The Lows, And Everything In Between is a poignant concept record that examines the underground music industry through both the past and present, warts and all.

Pieced together in its LP-sized package, The Highs, The Lows, And Everything In Between is a last will and testament of a record from a band that continues to raise the bar. It’s the most polished and consistent set of songs in the band’s already impressive catalog, and a refreshing commentary on being an underground artist that is sure to delight fans of The Menzingers, Frank Turner, and REM.
