S.L.Y.M.I. (Sing Like You Mean It!) is a music education program founded by Linda Richards which enthusiastically and positively engages children and adults in songs that reflect the past, present and future. Songs can change the world!
How S.L.Y.M.I. Happened:Fifteen years ago Linda, with guidance from Pete Seeger, created a music program for Hudson River Sloop Clearwater called the Power of Song. The program grew and morphed over those years, and now is heading out as an independent music project with Linda at the helm.
Music is the connective fiber between content and emotional response, the solidifier of concepts, the focuser of attention, the swell of momentum and the promise of participation. S.L.Y.M.I. (Sing Like You Mean It!) connects children to their piece in the world's puzzle, grows their responsibility for their own learning, creates an atmosphere of caring and respect, and assures them of their inestimable worth through song. Never in our history has music education been as necessary as it is right now.
S.L.Y.M.I. addresses concepts, moments, and social awareness from the past, present, and future.
The joy of music and the transference of information through song will fuel participants (and their audiences) to action!
Listen HERE to hear some of Linda’s work!
