Tannery Pond Center presents our 2026 Community Day: 4th Annual Outdoor Show
Saturday, September 19 | 11 AM - 5 PM | FREE
Gather with hunters, fishermen, trappers and people of the Adirondacks. Explore vendor booths including taxidermy, fly fishing, rafting, outdoor guides, gun safety, and kids' activities. Bring your whole camp, your family, your friends and celebrate the culture and camaraderie with live music, craft beer, food trucks, and a chili cook off! We also will have a raffle where you can win great prizes.

Event Parking & Shuttle
Event Parking is as follows:
All handicap and library customer parking will be in the library parking lot.
All vendor, guest speaker and volunteer parking will be in the Community Bank Lot.
All event guest should park at the Johnsburg Central School or available street parking.
We ask for your cooperation in these parking restrictions so that we can have a great event.
There may be limited parking near Tannery Pond as the Town of Johnsburg sewer project is underway.

Artist Statement: From the tiniest flower or insect, to the grandest of vistas, to all the birds, mammals and other animals and plants in between, Naturelogues values it all. Our photos represent the world of nature as we see it. We use a minimum of editing in our work, choosing instead to use the basic elements of photography and familiarity with the natural world to capture our subjects as they appear to us in nature. The result is that the beauty that exists in the natural world is allowed to shine. Read more in the exhibit page HERE.

We are putting together an exhibit that showcases your successes during the outdoor show! All ages welcomed.
To submit an entry, please email a good quality image to: director@tannerypondcenter.org or drop off an image during regular business hours to our office. We need the name of the person, the age, and the location of the catch. We will mount your photos and display them. Images can be picked up after October 3. Please see flyer HERE - feel free to share with family and friends.
Submission Deadline: September 2. Exhibits will be hung from 9/16 through 10/3.
Chili - Cookoff Details
All home and professional chefs are welcomed to submit an entry. Drop off your chili any time prior to tasting. Tasting will be from 12-2 PM with the announcement of winners at 2:30 PM. Cost to taste is $10/person for unlimited tasting and 3 tickets for voting. Click HERE for our Chili Cookoff Flyer.
We will award some great prizes for the top three people’s choice.
Raffle
We will have a raffle all day. We are working on securing all our raffle prizes. Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. Tickets can be purchased at any time during regular business hours leading up to the event or during the event. You do not have to be present to win. Announced at 4:15 PM. A list of raffle items will be included as they are confirmed.

We will live music outside on the corner grass lot. Join us for some great music!!!

1:15 PM - The Different Facets of Modern Trapping in NYS - Lou Berchielli
2:30 PM - The Invisible World of Birdsong - Samantha Peck - Take a journey into the hidden world of bird communication, as Dr. Samantha Carouso Peck discusses her Cornell University research on how and why birds sing, dance, and speak. She will explore the ways in which birdsong resembles human song and speech, and how birds learn to sing by shaping up their tunes, using feedback from parents and peers that is imperceptible to the human eye. Dr. Peck will discuss the incredible vocal flexibility of songbirds, parrots, and other mimics that incorporate human sounds into their repertoires, and how birds pass down songs through the generations. She will also take a ‘bird’s eye view’ of how birds perceive time, sound, and motion differently from us, and how this affects their learning of song and dance, from acoustic acrobatics to backflips to tapdancing.
Eden Wonda
Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation
Loons & Lead: Making the Switch to Lead-Free Fishing Tackle
Eden Wonda grew up in western New York and fell in love with the Adirondacks and loons on family visits. Nature has always been her refuge and passion. She has worked for a variety of wildlife and education organizations that have taken her from collecting chimpanzee population data for a refuge in Tanzania, to making podcasts on bison for the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary in Montana. She focuses on finding the most effective way to bring conservation action and care to communities. Eden holds a B.A. in Animal Behavior from Bucknell University and a Master’s in Education from the University at Buffalo.
Lou Berchielli
Lou has trapped for over 60 years. He has trapped animals for: meat, population management, nuisance reduction and control, research and wildlife restoration.
He co-authored NYS's first Trapper Training Manual and has been a certified Trapper Training Instructor for over 45 years.
His presentation will cover all of the different facets of trapping in New York State.
Samantha Peck
Dr. Samantha Carouso Peck is an expert in bird communication and cognition, having lived on six different continents in search of interesting birds. She has studied tool use in crows, speech in African Grey Parrots, and vocal learning and development in songbirds. After focusing on Animal Behavior and Communication during her undergraduate studies at Williams College, her doctoral dissertation at Cornell University focused on how young birds use feedback from their parents and peers, in forms invisible to the human eye, to guide their song learning.
Her work has been published in Current Biology, Philosophical Transactions, Animal Behaviour, and Scientific American. She is currently the Head Ornithologist and Educator of the Grassland Bird Trust, a non-profit conservation organization in Fort Edwards, New York.
The Dancing Witches
The dancing witches will perform in the Tannery Pond auditorium at 3:45 PM!
The Mission of the Dancing Witches is to bring Peace, Love, and Healing wherever they go! A subgroup of Gem Radio Theatre, the Witches started dancing together in 2021 and includes friends from Johnsburg, Minerva, Indian Lake, Warrensburg, Wevertown, and Olmsteadville.
